Something shifted for me a few months back.
I would open a chat with Claude or ChatGPT about one thing - say, my website - and three days later I would be back in that same chat trying to sort an invoice. The AI had lost the plot. So had I.
THE FIX WAS SIMPLER THAN I EXPECTED
Most of the big AI tools - Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini - let you create a "Project." Think of it as a folder, but smarter. Every chat inside a Project can see everything else in that Project.
So I made one for Rework. Inside it: a chat for website changes, a chat for a client's work, a chat for my income and expense report, and so on.
Nothing gets lost. Nothing needs re-explaining. And when a conversation drifts onto a new topic, I just start a fresh chat inside the same Project instead of dragging the old one sideways.
ONE THING WORTH KNOWING
This isn't a paid feature. It's free on Claude, free on ChatGPT, free on Gemini (there it's called a "Gem"). You don't need to spend anything to try this.
If your plan lets you upload files, do that too. I keep reference documents inside my Projects - saves me re-explaining background every time.
TWO SMALL HABITS THAT HELP
→ Name the Project by what it's for, not a vague label. "Website Rebuild" beats "Website Stuff."
→ When the conversation shifts topic, start a new chat in the Project rather than stretching one chat to cover everything.
It is a small (habit) small change. Made a real difference to how I actually use these tools.
A short email from me when there's a new one. Separate from the Building Smarter newsletter.
